Roadside memorials have become an everyday reminder of the dreadful loss of life on our roads. Each memorial is an illustration of a family’s grief and a wish to mark this and say goodbye, as well as to keep the memory of a loved one alive. Over a course of six months I visited and photographed approximately 50 of these locations in London.

Whilst visiting these tributes I had a strong sense of each individual family’s loss and it was the gravity of these painful emotions that I wanted to capture in each image. It also provoked many internal thoughts about the importance of having an opportunity to mark a tragic loss in this way.
